Halloween Party

Thank you for your support and patience during my absence.  I will be returning to the classroom part time this week (Tues PM, Wed AM, Thurs a little bit of both classes) and full time next week.  Mrs. Synek will remain in the classroom full days this week to help ensure a smooth transition.  Parent teacher conferences that were cancelled will be rescheduled soon.  Again, I apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

A reminder that the Preschool Halloween Party is this Thursday.  Children may wear their costumes to school on Thursday or they can bring them in their bookbags and we will help them put on their costume.  Parents are asked to attend the party ONLY if you are a volunteer for a craft or game.  If you are donating perishable food items, please send it in with your child on the day of the party.  We have a refrigerator to keep things cold if need be. Non perishable items maybe sent in a ahead of time.

If you have questions regarding the party or with the sign ups please contact the head room parent listed below:

Ss is for spooky and spider

We will continue our letter lessons this week with letter Ss as it ties in so nicely with Halloween. Spooky, spider, and scary are just a few "s" words for Halloween. Can you come up with more?

The story The Very Busy Spider is a great one for our young readers as there is a repetitive line that the kids can "read" ("The spider didn't answer. She was very busy spinning her web.") We will begin our farm animal unit shortly so it is a great introduction for that. The spider is so busy spinning her web that she doesn't hear any of the animals. There are so many great Halloween stories, it was hard to pick! Our classroom library collection this week also includes:  Ten Trick-O-Treaters, One Hungry Monster, Where the Wild Things Are, Goodnight Goons, Big Scary Monster, and Little Goblins Ten.

Smores start with letter Ss and you can make this scrumptious snack at home. See the recipe here. Other activities this week include painting a spider web using marble painting, and Halloween Party on Thursday.

Check out these "scary sites":
* Monster Mash video & song.
Haunted House: enter if you dare! (it really looks scary at first but cute at the end)
* Halloween Night video & song.
* Pumpkin Pumpkin video & song.

I-PRIDE WEEK

This week is I-Pride week at IPS.  Please wear something to show your Independence Blue Devil Pride on Monday. We have filled the school with lots of pride and are learning how we can be responsible, respectful, caring, trustworthy, fair and good citizens.  We will continue to reinforce these positive character traits throughout the year.  If you are looking for some resources to use at home on character education check out the ones listed below.
Our letter of the week is letter Ff for friends!  The PM class will be attending an I-Pride Pep Assembly on Monday afternoon. Children will be participating in a project called LOVE ROCKS.  The preschoolers will be making Love Rocks in class to help spread some love and joy!  They may choose to give their Love Rock to a friend, someone they love, someone they see who made need a little love and joy, or they can simply leave it someplace such as the library/park for someone to find. It is amazing how something so simple can really make someone's day!  Love Rocks is a project started by a friend's family after a very tragic accident.  You can check out more about Love Rocks by clicking here or also find it on Facebook.

BOOK FAIR is also here this week.  The Preschoolers will be going to the Book Fair on Thursday.  There will be plenty of volunteers to help your child, however if you would like to help them shop, please meet them at the Book Fair during their shopping time:  AM 9:00-9:30     PM 1:30-2:00.

P is for Pumpkin

Fall is a great time to have some family fun! Enjoy the changing leaves and cooler air and celebrate the season with some autumn-themed activities, such as fun crafts for fall and great fall recipe ideas. Click here for ideas.

This week we are exploring pumpkins.  Our letter of the week is Pp.  Preschoolers have been busy with a variety of pumpkin activities as they work on counting, shapes, words that start with "p", and making a pumpkin craft.  On Thursday the kids enjoyed carving a pumpkin.
Here is the "story/song" that they learned this week.  Check it out and let them sing for you.
