Cat is here to play!

This week is Read Across America Week. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. I always remind the children that they can "read" by looking at the pictures and telling their own story. Parents, please put an emphasis on reading with your child this week. Read early and read often. The early years are critical to developing a lifelong love of reading. It’s never too early to beginreading to your child! Click here for some tips and fun ways you can help your child become ahappy and confident reader.

Some Dr. Seuss favorites that we will be reading this week include: Wocket in My Pocket, Cat in the Hat (iBook on the iPad), Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and The Lorax.
Our Song we will learn this week is a Cat in the Hat Fingerplay. It's a fun way to work on numbers/counting and rhyming words.
One little cat on a sunny day
Put on his hat and went out to play
Two little cats when it started getting dark
Put on their hats and went to the park.
Three little cats when the sky was blue
Put on their hats and went to the zoo.
Four little cats by the kitchen door
Put on their hats and went to the store.
Five little cats on a sunny day
Put on their hats and they all ran away.

Teddy Bear Week!

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear...

.........................................................................
This is Teddy Bear Week at Preschool! Along with talking about teddy bears, we will also be learning about feelings.

There are so many great bear stories that it was hard to choose just a few to read this week. Karma Wilson has a series of "Bear" books that the kids love including Bear Snores On, Bear Feels Sick, Bear Feels Scared, and Bears New Friend. Check out Since we are talking about feelings, we will also be reading Llama Llama Mad at Mama.

Here are some bear songs that we are learning:

You are My Teddy Bear (sung to "You Are My Sunshine")
You are my teddy bear
My only teddy bear
You make me smile dear
You are my friend
You'll never know dear
How much I like you
I'm so glad you're my
Teddy Bear today.

Bear song (sung to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat")
Hug, hug, hug your bear
Squeeze him very tight
Hold him high
Help him fly
Then hug with all your might.

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear (sung to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, reach up high,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the sky.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch your shoe,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, I love you!
